After more than a decade of waiting, John Carter 2: Gods of Mars has been officially announced by Disney to be released in 2025, marking the return of one of the most beloved interplanetary heroes on the silver screen. The film, based on the novel The Gods of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs, promises to bring an epic adventure on the planet Barsoom, continuing the story from the first film in 2012. With a familiar cast and a talented production team, John Carter 2 is making fans excited.
The first film, although not a commercial success, built a vibrant world of Barsoom with diverse races such as the blue Tharks, the Red Heliums, and the mysterious villains Thern. Carter, along with his best friend Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe), must face powerful forces to save his son and unite the races on Barsoom.
John Carter 2’s highlight is its epic scale and deeper exploration of Barsoom mythology. The film introduces a modern underground city where the Firstborn race worship the goddess Isis – which is actually a plot by Matai Shang. The relentless battles, from air-to-air combat on spaceships to hand-to-hand combat on the red desert, are promised to be eye-catching thanks to advanced CGI technology. Director Andrew Stanton, who created Finding Nemo and WALL-E, continues to bring an emotional storytelling style, combining intense action with profound family moments.
The main theme of the film revolves around family, sacrifice and the fight for freedom.
